Xolo (formerly LeapIN) is the most popular service provider for e-Residents, with 10,000+ companies managed. Their platform handles company formation, accounting, invoicing, and compliance — all in one dashboard. Xolo Go lets freelancers invoice EU clients without a company; Xolo Leap is the full Estonian OÜ package with a dedicated personal accountant.
I've used Xolo since 2017 — one of their earliest customers when they were still called LeapIN. Started with Xolo Go for straightforward freelance invoicing, then switched to Xolo Leap in my third year when I wanted a dedicated accountant. The dashboard is the best I've seen in the e-Residency ecosystem. Invoicing, expense tracking, tax overviews, document archive — all in one place. I signed my company's founding documents from a cafe in Chiang Mai using my e-Residency card and Xolo's platform. No notary, no office visit. The Wise integration is the killer feature: every transaction syncs automatically, gets categorized, and shows up in my monthly financial report. I spend about 5-10 minutes per month on bookkeeping — uploading receipts via the mobile app. My personal accountant on the Leap plan knows my business, reminds me of deadlines, and answers tax questions within 24 hours. He once caught a miscategorized expense that saved me €340 in taxes. My most complex question — US withholding tax on a payment from an American client — was resolved within 48 hours with concrete steps and the right tax forms. The annual report takes me 20 minutes: Xolo prepares everything, I review the numbers, sign digitally, done. In 8+ years, zero errors, zero missed deadlines, zero compliance issues. One thing to know: Xolo had German-language support in the early days. Since around 2020, everything is English only. The quality hasn't suffered — but you need working English for accounting terminology.
— Sebastian Kühn, e-Resident since 2015

My history with Xolo
I signed up for Xolo in 2017, back when it was still called LeapIN and there were maybe three serious options for e-Residents. Eight years and change later, I'm still a customer, still logging into the same dashboard, still sending invoices through it. That's the entire basis for this review.
This is not a researched review. I log into the Xolo dashboard every week, send invoices through it, track expenses, and get my annual report done through them. I have never been an employee, contractor, or advisor to Xolo. I do earn an affiliate commission if you sign up through my link — which is exactly why the critical sections below are longer than the positive ones.
Most Xolo reviews online are written by people who signed up, took screenshots, and cancelled. Mine is written by someone who has filed nine annual reports through the platform and watched the product change hands, change languages, and change its entire pricing model. That's a different kind of information.
What each Xolo tier actually includes
Xolo sells two separate products: Xolo Go (€0/month, pay-as-you-go, no company of your own) and Xolo Leap (four tiers, your own Estonian OÜ). They are not upgrades of each other — Go runs your invoicing through Xolo's own entity, Leap manages a company you actually own.
| Plan | Monthly (ex VAT) | What it adds | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xolo Go | €0 | Invoicing through Xolo's entity, pay-as-you-go fee per invoice. No own company, no company assets, no equity | Testing the water, occasional freelance invoices |
| Leap Starter | €59 | Company registration support, full accounting, Estonian tax reporting, email support, payment-platform integrations. Capped transaction volume and a revenue ceiling | Solo freelancers with low invoice counts |
| Leap Standard | €99 | Same core service, revenue ceiling removed | Established freelancers past the Starter cap |
| Leap Pro | €139 | Shareholder management, OSS reporting for digital services, VAT OSS/IOSS for physical goods, investment activity. Up to 500 sales transactions and 50 purchase invoices per month | Multiple shareholders, EU-wide digital or physical sales |
| Leap Premium | From €259 | Everything in Pro, plus a dedicated senior accountant (1 hour/month), priority handling, additional EU VAT numbers, higher crypto investment limits, 500+ transactions | Companies with genuinely unusual structures |
Pricing and tier contents verified against xolo.io/pricing on 18 July 2026, cross-checked against Estoveo's provider data (last verified 17 July 2026).
Xolo's published matrix states the monthly transaction allowance for Starter and Standard in a way I could not resolve into two clearly different numbers. The revenue ceiling is the difference that matters and is unambiguous: Starter has one, Standard does not. Ask sales for the exact transaction counts in writing before you commit — do not take my table or anyone else's as final on that one line.
There is no setup fee on any Leap tier. You pay the state fees through the platform: €265 company registration plus a €25 registry fee plus VAT.
What onboarding actually looks like
From signup to your first sent invoice, budget two to three weeks — and almost all of that is Estonian government processing time, not Xolo.
Here's the real sequence:
- Signup and KYC (day 1, about 30 minutes). You create an account, pick a tier, and upload ID. You need your e-Residency card already in hand — Xolo cannot start without it. If you don't have it yet, read how to apply first; that's a 3-8 week process on its own.
- Company details (day 1-2, about 20 minutes). Company name (check availability first — good names go fast), business activity code, share capital declaration. Xolo pre-fills most of the legal boilerplate.
- Digital signing (day 2-3, 10 minutes). You sign the founding documents with your e-Residency card. I signed mine from a café in Chiang Mai. No notary, no office, no printer.
- Registry approval (day 3-8, you do nothing). The Estonian Business Register processes the application. Mine took four working days. Xolo tells you the moment it lands.
- Bank account (day 8-15, about 45 minutes of your time). This is the real bottleneck, and it isn't Xolo's. You apply to Wise or Revolut separately and wait for their compliance review. See the banking setup guide.
- VAT registration if you need it (day 10-20). Xolo files it. Registration is included in the plan.
- First invoice (5 minutes). Once the bank account is live, invoicing is genuinely fast. Details in the first invoice guide.
The step that surprises people is number 5. Everyone budgets for company formation and nobody budgets for banking compliance.
What Xolo does well
The dashboard is the best in the e-Residency market, and it isn't close. Revenue, expenses, profit, and upcoming tax obligations are on one screen, in real time.
I create and send an invoice in under two minutes. Recurring invoices fire automatically once configured. Expenses go in by photographing a receipt on my phone.
The Wise integration is the feature I'd actually miss. Transactions sync automatically within hours and arrive pre-categorized. No CSV exports, no manual matching. It saves me two to three hours a month versus the manual bookkeeping I did in 2016. If you're weighing banks, the Wise Business review explains why this pairing works.
Tax filing is a notification, a number to check, and a confirm button. Five minutes per quarter for VAT. The annual report — the thing that genuinely frightens most e-Residents — takes me about 20 minutes: Xolo prepares it, I review the figures, I sign digitally, they file it with the Business Register.
Nine annual reports. Zero missed deadlines, zero penalties, zero compliance problems. That's the number that keeps me a customer.
What went wrong in 8+ years
Nothing catastrophic. But "nothing catastrophic" is not the same as "nothing," and every review that stops at the dashboard is hiding the parts that actually cost me time.
Support latency on complex questions. Standard support answers within 24-48 hours. For routine questions that's fine. For anything genuinely non-standard — cross-border withholding tax, an unusual client jurisdiction, a payment structure nobody has seen before — a 48-hour round trip means a question that needs three exchanges takes most of a week. Twice I've had a deadline get uncomfortably close because of the round-trip time, not because anyone did anything wrong. Higher Leap tiers get priority handling and it is noticeably faster. On Starter, plan your tax questions a week ahead of when you need the answer.
The English-only shift around 2020. Xolo had German-language support in the early years. Since roughly 2020, everything — support, documents, the interface — is English only. Service quality did not drop. But if your English is conversational rather than fluent, accounting terminology is exactly the vocabulary you don't have. Words like accrual, withholding, statutory reserve, and permanent establishment carry real financial consequences if you nod along without understanding them. I'm comfortable in English and I still occasionally had to look things up.
Tier limitations bite in the wrong direction. Starter's caps are on transaction count and revenue, not on complexity. A freelancer with three big invoices a month and a genuinely messy tax situation sits comfortably inside Starter's limits while needing Pro-level attention. Meanwhile someone with high volume and dead-simple finances gets pushed up a tier for no benefit they can feel. The tiers meter throughput. They don't meter difficulty.
Invoice templates are still rigid. Eight years of feature releases and the invoice templates remain lightly customizable at best. If your brand needs a specific layout, you're generating invoices elsewhere and importing the data.
The pricing model changed underneath me. Xolo has restructured pricing more than once during my time as a customer. The current restructure moved in my favour — €59 entry, no setup fee. That's genuinely good news. It's also a reminder that the number you sign up at is not a promise.
If you have a complicated tax question, ask it in one message with all the context and all the sub-questions included. Xolo's answers are good; the cost is the round trip. Minimize round trips.
What other customers say
Xolo holds a TrustScore of 4.0 out of 5 across roughly 479 reviews on Trustpilot, checked 18 July 2026. On G2 it shows 4.8 out of 5 — but from only 8 reviews as of 18 July 2026, which is far too small a sample to draw any conclusion from.
The Trustpilot pattern matches my experience closely. The praise clusters on ease of use and on support being knowledgeable and responsive. The criticism clusters on value for money — specifically from users in high-complexity tax jurisdictions like Spain and Italy, who feel they're still doing significant administrative work themselves despite paying for a managed service. That's a fair complaint, and it's a complaint about the limits of any Estonian provider when your country of residence has its own demands, not about Xolo's execution.
Note that Trustpilot ranks first for "Xolo review" and is a self-selected sample: people who are furious and people who were just delighted both write reviews, and everyone in the quiet middle does not.
What €59/month actually costs you
Leap Starter costs €708 per year excluding VAT. That number only means something next to what you'd otherwise pay.
Xolo Leap Starter, year one
| Item | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Leap Starter | 708 € | €59/mo × 12, ex VAT |
| Company registration | 265 € | state fee, one-time |
| Registry fee | 25 € | plus VAT, one-time |
| Setup fee | 0 € | abolished |
| First year, all in | 998 € |
Prices verified against xolo.io/pricing on 18 July 2026. Year two onward: €708. Excludes banking and VAT.
For comparison: a German Steuerberater handling ongoing bookkeeping for a small company runs €50-150/month for a very small operation and €100-500/month more typically, with total annual costs of €500-2,500 for a small business — and the annual accounts are a separate bill on top (sevdesk and Integral, checked 18 July 2026). In Spain, a gestoría for an autónomo runs €35-70/month, but a Spanish SL — the closer structural comparison to an Estonian OÜ — starts around €159/month and typically lands at €150-280/month (Billeo, checked 18 July 2026).
So €59/month buys you accounting, VAT filing, the annual report, invoicing software, and a company registered in a jurisdiction that doesn't tax retained profits. In Spain, that's roughly a third of what an SL's gestoría costs for less service. In Germany, it undercuts almost everything and includes the annual accounts that a Steuerberater bills separately.
That comparison is not perfectly like-for-like — a local accountant knows your local tax code and Xolo does not. But it makes the €59 mean something.
Who should not use Xolo
Four groups should look elsewhere, and I'd rather say so than sell you something that won't fit.
You need German-language support. Xolo has been English-only since around 2020. If accounting terminology in English makes you nervous, that discomfort will compound over years of filings. This is a hard disqualifier, not a preference.
You want one flat all-in price. Xolo's tiers are throughput-based, and moving up a tier is a step function, not a gradual increase. If predictable, unchanging cost matters more to you than the entry price, Companio at a flat €89/month is the more honest fit for how your brain works about money.
You're pre-revenue. €708/year against zero revenue is not a business expense, it's a subscription to optimism. Use Xolo Go, or don't form a company yet. The question isn't which provider — it's whether you need a company at all.
You need a physical office or notarial services. Xolo is a software company with accountants attached. If you need actual office space in Tallinn, trademark registration, or legal counsel with a notary, 1Office is built for that and Xolo simply is not.
Best fit: solo freelancers and consultants with straightforward finances, anyone banking with Wise, and anyone who values a fast dashboard over a phone number.
My honest verdict
| Aspect | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Dashboard & UX | Best I've used, no contest |
| Accounting quality | Reliable, rarely needs chasing |
| Wise integration | Seamless, zero manual work |
| Support speed | Too slow when it matters |
| Value for money | Fair, but never cheap |
| Overall | Personal Choice — the setup I've paid for since 2017 |

The bottom line
For years my verdict was: Xolo isn't the cheapest, but it's the most reliable and the most polished. The pricing restructure made the first half of that sentence obsolete. At €59/month with no setup fee, the most reliable option is now also the cheapest full package on the market. That's an unusual thing to be able to say.
The 4.5 rather than 5 is entirely about support latency and the English-only shift. Neither has cost me money. Both have cost me time, and if your English or your tax situation is more fragile than mine, they'll cost you more.
Start on Starter. Upgrade when the caps bite, not before. Your company doesn't change — only the plan does.
Frequently asked questions
Is Xolo worth it for a solo freelancer?
Yes, if you're doing more than roughly €2,000/month in revenue. At €59/month for Leap Starter, Xolo costs less than a Spanish gestoría for an SL and less than most German Steuerberater arrangements, while including invoicing, VAT filing, and the annual report. Below €1,000/month, the honest answer is that you probably don't need a company yet.
What's the difference between Xolo Go and Xolo Leap?
Xolo Go is €0/month and lets you invoice clients through Xolo's own legal entity — you never own a company. Xolo Leap starts at €59/month and manages an Estonian OÜ that you actually own, with equity, retained profits, and your own company assets. Go is for testing; Leap is for building something.
How long does it take to get set up with Xolo?
Two to three weeks from signup to first invoice, assuming you already hold your e-Residency card. Company registration itself took me four working days. The bottleneck is opening a business bank account, which is a separate process with Wise or Revolut and is not under Xolo's control.
Does Xolo offer support in German or Spanish?
No. Xolo has been English-only since around 2020, including support, documents, and the dashboard. The quality of support has not suffered, but you need working English for accounting terminology. If that's a problem, it's the single strongest reason to choose a different provider.
What is Xolo's Trustpilot rating?
Xolo holds a TrustScore of 4.0 out of 5 from roughly 479 Trustpilot reviews as of 18 July 2026. On G2 it shows 4.8 out of 5, but from only 8 reviews, which is too small a sample to be meaningful. Criticism on Trustpilot concentrates on value for money from users in complex tax jurisdictions like Spain and Italy.
Can I switch Xolo tiers or cancel later?
Yes. Tiers change without touching your company — the OÜ is yours and stays registered regardless of plan. If you leave Xolo entirely, you keep the company and move its administration to another provider; see choosing a service provider for how to evaluate the alternatives.
What are the hidden costs with Xolo?
There is no setup fee. You pay €265 in state registration fees plus a €25 registry fee plus VAT, both one-time and both paid through the platform. An unusually complex annual report can add €100-200. VAT registration and address changes are included.
